Ino Benivegna and his family has been in the Ice Cream business for generations. He had a dream to change the experience of the traditional Gelato after his first trip to New York and fuse the traditional American Ice Cream Parlor with all the traditions of Sicilian Gelato.
As an American in Sicily fresh out of design school I was the perfect fit. I designed the space and the brand from inception to completion and right down to the music selection. I took a complete hands on approach - painting the walls (all but the red wall - which I was strongly opposed to), the furniture selection and reupholstery, the selection of lighting and furniture both at vintage stores and Ikea, the logo design, menu design, flyers, and creating all the dishes available on the menu.
For the lighting in the main dining I removed all the recess lighting and replaced it with globe lights and plaster moldings. The lights were to hang down at different lengths to further a playful like atmosphere.
